Konačište Osmica

The rooms are fine, and the location and views are lovely. But the food was terrible. There's no lift, so you have to haul your own bags. You also can't eat breakfast on the terrace, which means sitting inside in a smoking area. Not a nice way to start the morning.

Being right by the tourist train stop made this a handy choice for Mokra Gora. Dinner cost about 5-6€, and breakfast was included with the restaurant service. I slept comfortably, and had a lovely, interesting chat with the receptionist, whose name I unfortunately forgot. She was very kind and happy to talk.

The hotel restaurant serves traditional Serbian food, and I'd recommend the lamb, ask for jagnjetina ispod saca. The sargan eight (sarganska osmica) train is a must if you're staying here: it's an hour-long ride on an old-style train through 22 tunnels and over 7 bridges. The railway story and the location make the place distinctive, and the staff were kind and pleasant. Come experience a different side of Serbia.

We found the prices very affordable, the food really good, and our room clean. There's free parking, and quite a few beautiful places to explore nearby. The architecture is striking, the setting feels like a fairytale, and the staff were friendly, helpful, and professional. I'd recommend it for couples or families, and I'm sure I'll visit again.
