Gorillas Lake Kivu Hotel

Only one towel was provided for two people. Some rooms had no hot water for showering, and there were mosquitoes in the room. The carpet wasn’t clean, many rooms had lighting problems, and sound insulation was poor. Wi-Fi also didn’t work in some rooms.

Breakfast was amazing, with lots of choices and really attentive staff. The hotel restaurant was a bit pricey, though. We only stayed one night, but had a great experience. The location is right in front of the lake, so getting there was easy. Rooms are pretty basic, but clean, and the hot showers were all we needed. Thank you!

The staff were responsive, though they led me on about bringing ice and never delivered it, which I do blame them for. The pool water isn’t heated, so it’s a bit cold, but pleasant. The restaurant menu is sparse, and they didn’t have the main dish I wanted. The room had no air conditioning, but fortunately they brought me a fan, so it wasn’t unbearably hot. Without A/C, I had to leave the balcony door open, and there was no mosquito net. I slept fitfully with mosquitoes buzzing in my ear. There’s no refrigerator or coffee maker in the room, not even a tissue box, and my attempt to get ice to keep perishables cold failed. The stained furniture, torn and dirty carpet, stained walls, and generally dilapidated look were the least of my concerns. This place disappointed me in almost every way. It’s a two-star hotel at best.

There was a lovely lake view, and the hotel was decent overall. But it was disappointing that water at breakfast had to be bought separately. The rooms only came with one small bottle, which is nowhere near enough in a country as hot as Rwanda.
