We spent three nights at Amakoro as two couples, and what stayed with me most was how warm and thoughtful everyone was. The whole staff were so welcoming and attentive to the details, and I already miss their smiling faces and spirits. The place has a relaxed feel, beautiful grounds with carefully tended native plants, and delicious food. The beds were so comfortable we all felt like we were melting into sleep.

The cottage is cozy and all yours, with a fireplace, and the grounds are beautiful, full of flowers and plants. The food was okay, though the meat was a bit overcooked. Staff worked hard to help, but a few handoffs went wrong. My laundry came back later than expected, though it was free, and the shoes they said would be ready by dinner arrived much later. I only had one pair, and the thongs they gave us were uncomfortable. After gorilla trekking you get a lovely leg massage, but not after golden monkey trekking. Why?

The lodge is stunning, set amid beautiful nature and kept in lovely condition, and every meal we had was delicious. What made the stay especially memorable was the warmth from the moment we arrived. Everyone on staff was kind and attentive, and we felt completely at home. We can’t wait to return to Amakoro Songa in Kinigi. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

After a gorilla trek, they welcome you back with warm towels, take off your boots, and give your feet a gentle eucalyptus foot bath and massage. Then you can head back to your room and rest while your boys are cleaned for the next day. Patrick and the team think of every detail, even things we hadn’t considered. The food was tasty and varied, and service was great in the dining room, bar, and our room. Everyone was friendly and cheerful. Each evening there was a roaring fire in our room, which made the chilly nights warm and cozy. The care from all the staff was wonderful.

The setting is beautiful, with gardens, vivid plants, and wide views of the volcanoes, and the lodge fits naturally into the Rwandan landscape. Inside, the common spaces have cozy corners and lovely views. Our room felt peaceful and luxurious, with a very comfortable bed, crisp linens, a spotless bathroom, and everything we needed. The rustic but elegant decor suited the surroundings, and we slept well after our outings. Meals were a real highlight. Everything was made with fresh local ingredients and beautifully presented, from hearty breakfasts to dinners full of flavor. The menu mixed international dishes with local specialties and offered plenty of choice. The staff made the whole experience, too. The manager, guides, and housekeeping team were warm and remembered our names and preferences. They anticipated what we needed, helped arrange last-minute activities, shared useful local suggestions, and handled our dietary restrictions carefully. Their knowledge of Rwanda and cheerful service made the trip stress-free. Amakoro Songa Lodge felt like much more than somewhere to sleep. The hospitality, food, comfort, and natural beauty made for a memorable stay. Five stars!
