The breakfast was amazing, loads of fruit, a delicious omelette, bread, and spicy tea. There’s a lovely view of the volcanoes outside, and a great cheap local place to eat called Lippea (I think?). After a few initial hiccups, I had a really nice couple of days here. Staff were helpful, the price was very good, and my bed was comfortable with a mosquito net built in. The curtains were thin, though, so I added some extra material because I wasn’t feeling well and needed to sleep during the day. There’s also a nice lounge with books, beautiful photos on the walls, and a big sweet dog called Sweetie.

After traveling from Uganda, I just wanted to get some rest, but this turned into a tiring waste of time. I had booked and paid through agoda the day before arriving, yet they said they had no booking from there and that I had to pay on the spot. When I contacted agoda, they seemed to call the property, but it wasn’t answered. After I canceled the reservation and asked the price, I was quoted more than I’d booked for. Even with the booking problem, they still tried to charge a higher price. They shouldn’t accept agoda bookings if they don’t know how to handle them. Very bad experience.

Just five minutes on foot from the bus station, with shops and restaurants close by, this guesthouse is in a really handy spot. The room price was affordable and included a nice breakfast, and it was excellent value overall. I booked a dorm bed but ended up in a private room, since one bunk was in a separate room in the same dorm. Justin and Divine were super friendly, and Sweetie the dog is adorable. Thanks for a lovely stay!

We felt at home as soon as we arrived at Amahoro guesthouse. Steve was an amazing host and also felt like a travel agent and a friend. We took two day trips with Red Rocks and highly recommend them. Being able to visit the local market and make our own dinner was great, and Steve’s delicious breakfast made the stay fabulous too. :)

I arrived on my motorbike without booking and got a room quickly. Thomas, the host, was so friendly and kind, and his amazing breakfast each morning helped me feel right at home at Amahoro Guesthouse, now called Red Rocks inn. It’s connected to the Red rocks initiative for sustainable development further south. I also met Norbert, a local eco tourism guide, who took me on a lovely trip to the twin lakes. He was kind, knowledgeable, and helpful, and I highly recommend asking him to guide you in the area. ☺️
