It was a good place overall, and the hotel itself was very good. It was far from Masjid Nabvi, though.
I arrived expecting to pay at the property, as agreed when I booked the day before. My reservation still showed as confirmed on Booking.com, but management had cancelled it internally without telling me. They then asked for double the original price if I wanted a room. That was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. I wouldn't recommend Al Mamoun Hotel to anyone looking for honest, reliable service.
For getting to prayers, the hotel was very convenient. It's a short walk to the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid al-Nabawi), entering through the Al Salam Museum Gate 316, and that gave me a chance to see another side of the masjid. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff welcomed me with traditional Arabic coffee and dates. There is a restaurant downstairs, with plenty more places to eat along nearby Al Salam Street. I had to pay before arrival to confirm my booking. I sent my flight reservation over WhatsApp to show that I was coming, and that secured me a place to stay when I landed in Madina. One thing to keep in mind: they advise against eating on the beds, since stained sheets could mean a charge. Al Mamoun Hotel covered the basics well, and I enjoyed the clean room and closeness to Haram. A kettle and a complimentary bottle of water on arrival would have been useful additions.
The staff were friendly, and room service was available. The washroom was clean with basic amenities, and the room had tidy bedsheets. Cash and card are accepted, and the hotel is wheelchair accessible. They have their own parking, but it's closed, so you have to park nearby. It's a 10-12 Minutes walk to Haram. If you're driving a private car, getting there takes longer because you have to go all the way around. There's no breakfast, and the hotel is tucked among other hotels, so without a map it's hard to find. Don't expect a view. It's an option if you don't mind walking to Haram, but otherwise you may want to look elsewhere. If you have kids, watch out for stains on the bed sheet: they charge 50SAR Extra for any stain on the sheet, pillow, or blanket. I'd never heard of that in all my stays at hotels, small or large.
Avoid this place. The room was very tiny, the toilet had no tissues, and the flush didn't work. There wasn't even a kettle. If you want coffee or tea, it's made in their own unhygienic kitchen and they charge MONEY for even a cup of hot water. The doors don't block noise, either. They ask too much for a room with no facilities, the reception staff were very rude and impolite, and the wifi is super slow. Think twice before booking.
