Coral Sea Resort & Casino

A lovely place to relax, with pleasant surroundings and good food. There was nice music and live entertainment in the evening, and it made for a great time unwinding and enjoying the company.

The common areas looked rundown, and the breakfast buffet at the restaurant was disappointing. WiFi barely worked, and the rooms are basic. When I checked in, the sheets were stained, so I had to call housekeeping to have them changed. The staff were the best part: Hotel manager Alan helped me find an iPhone charger, and the chef at the seafront bar made me a nice curry.

I had a sea-facing room for my 10-day work trip to Honiara. The air conditioning and internet were a welcome improvement over where I'd stayed on my last visit, and the staff were pleasant and keen to help. There are two restaurants on site, and the food was nice. We chose to leave after the tsunami watch alert for Honiara, and I was struck by how little evacuation planning the staff seemed to have. The roadworks, which weren't the resort's fault, also made getting in and out a bit difficult. The pool sits beside reception, so it can feel exposed to visitors and the elements. All in all, though, it was a nice stay compared with other places I've tried in Honiara.

I only had lunch and a drink and used the pool, so I can't comment on the rooms. It was a really nice place to spend a laid-back afternoon. The steak was good, and so were the drinks.
