Calou Guest House

We loved the family hosting us, and the natural setting was beautiful. The rooms were lovely, and the location is convenient, close to the center. Special thanks to Trinisha and Jarel for showing us around the island. If you’re after a good tour, Jarel can organize it. We had a great stay at Calou!

Nadine went above and beyond to make our four days on the island comfortable, and the service was outstanding. When I asked for a yoga mat, it arrived at our room within a minute. Our bikes were waiting in the garden the next day. We were welcomed with a drink and a full explanation of La Digue Island, and the driver met us when we arrived and helped carry our luggage from the boat to our rooms. We’d originally booked Chalets de Palma but were upgraded to rooms at Calou Guest House, which belongs to the same owner. The rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated, with fresh flowers on arrival. Breakfast was delicious, with changing daily options and local fruit served on nicely decorated tables. We felt relaxed and at home, and I’d recommend this lovely place to anyone wanting that home atmosphere.

A couple of small things could be improved. The bathroom and toilet doors in our room were swinging doors, so the toilet was directly in view and privacy wasn’t great. The beds were two singles pushed together, and a gap opened between them during the night. I know lots of places do this, but a proper double would be better. The patio light could also be dimmer, perhaps more amber or yellow. We rented bikes during our stay. The room was big and well organized, with great decor, and the hosts were super nice. The location on a side street meant peace and quiet, which is all you need. Breakfast was amazing, and we’d surely recommend it overall.

Nadine greeted us when we arrived at Calou Guesthouse and offered a delicious mocktail made with fresh fruit juice. She also shared dinner suggestions, explained the island’s geography, and pointed out places we shouldn’t miss. The villa and its fountain garden were beautifully maintained, with a Coco de Mer tree, flowers, clean white towels, comfortable beds, and a spacious bathroom with a rain shower. The amenities were adequate, and we especially appreciated the flower arrangement on the bed. Breakfast was delicious, with local fruit, pancakes, coffee, toast, fresh daily jam, and omelette. Messages on WhatsApp got quick replies, and requests were handled promptly. You can arrange a ferry transfer for 10euro per way and rent bikes for 100scr a day. You’ll need a bicycle to get around unless you’re happy walking a lot. We had a lovely three days here and highly recommend this villa to anyone visiting La Dogue in the near future.
