Chateau St Cloud Hotel

The facilities were nice, and they even decorated for our honeymoon. The bathroom was modern and Western-style, like a four-star Western hotel. But checkout completely spoiled the experience. We had only one day on the island and were in a hurry to explore. We had no bill, handed over the key, and asked to leave, but they told us to sit and wait. Ten minutes later, after we again asked them to take the key and let us go, a staff member brought out a physical review book and said we had to fill it in first. We did, and tried to leave. While we were being kept waiting, our bikes were stolen. They’d been right there when we started checkout, but someone came into the hotel and took them. The hotel said it had happened one or two minutes earlier, that they weren’t responsible, and that the bike company had come to reclaim them as part of its checkout process. They called the bike company, which was a mess, to be fair. Still, the hotel took no responsibility and wouldn’t even lend us bikes for an hour so we could go to the beach, despite our asking. There was no apology or accountability, just an argument that it wasn’t their fault. If they hadn’t made us wait, we’d have been at the beach.

This isn’t a five-star Raffles hotel, but the people and service really are five star. The staff were fantastic, and when we had trouble with a bike lock they came to help. I also left my wallet at the hotel, and they secured it on the next ferry to Mahe so I could collect it before flying home. During the Creole Festival, they put on a spectacular dinner buffet with great local recipes and food. The pool and forest surroundings were lovely, and the location made it easy to get around by bike. A real gem on La Digue. Merci, St Cloud people! Hope the rains arrive soon!

The room was clean and comfortable, just as described, and the location was beautiful. What stood out was how smooth everything was. We arrived at the hotel without any hassle, and within five minutes I’d sorted check-in, access to the room, and the other details with the manager. The staff were friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. A great choice if you want your holiday to start without stress.

We had a wonderful time. There was lots to explore nearby, the rooms were lovely, and the service was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was really good too.
