Pension Hibiscus

The room at Pension Hibiscus had a full kitchen and a terrace where local birds often came by. We stayed there for our honeymoon and my partner's birthday, and the owners made the occasion feel special. Everyone was friendly, and the owner kindly helped arrange taxis and bikes through local businesses. I'd definitely recommend this guesthouse if you're visiting La Digue.

The owner's family made me feel at home, sharing island information and helping me arrange a bicycle. I chose the place at the last minute before going to Seychelles because I wanted somewhere clean, comfortable, well located, and not too expensive. It was also wonderfully quiet, just right for my birthday celebration. The room was spacious enough and clean, the AC worked perfectly, the internet was good, and the water ran well. I enjoyed every moment of the stay.

The room was tidy and had a toaster, fridge, microwave, kettle, and some utensils. For bigger meals, they let us use the kitchen in their home. Jenita and her helper were so welcoming, warm, and helpful. We had an amazing stay on this amazing island. Highly recommended.

A few useful things to know before booking. The pension is on the east side, away from most of the scenic spots and activity shops, so you may need to pay for pickup each time. There is an on-site restaurant, and little else nearby, so keep expectations modest. They offer an on-site car or motorcycle rental, and without renting, getting around is difficult. The free bikes are old-fashioned, with pedal brakes and no handle brakes. Kayak rental is free too, though one pedal was broken. The checkout pickup service was very helpful, and they can make a reservation if you ask. The bungalow-style room is old. They said it had been renovated, but some roof wood pieces were broken apart and you could see the sky. The walls are very thin, so you can hear people in the next room. It has AC and fans, hot water, a small old rusty fridge, a little table, and a porch with chairs. The bathroom has no ventilation, gets very hot and humid, and has lots of visible insects. There are ants, bugs, and mosquitoes, but no coils or sprays, so bring your own protection. I was badly bitten by some insect. I don't think they were bed bugs, but I had at least three bites at a time, leaving brown or black dots, and the itching was intense on my back, arms, and legs. The pillowcases and blankets smelled really bad. We asked for replacements, but those still smelled, and the odor was back the next day. There is no daily cleaning service, or you have to pay extra, and towels aren't changed every day. The room has no hair dryer or TV, and there isn't a trash bin except for a small one in the bathroom. Internet stopped working in the rain and when many people were using it, so bring something to keep yourself occupied if the weather turns bad.
