Hotell Laponia

I was here for three nights in February 2022 with a large tour group. My room was small but comfortable, and the decor and furniture felt dated while still being cozy. There wasn’t, as I recall, one central bar or lounge, but each floor had comfortable seating where you could enjoy drinks bought at reception. The dining room was large. Breakfast was a Swedish style buffet with plenty of options, and dinner came from a menu with local dishes such as reindeer. Everything was well prepared.

Dinner was delicious, especially the deer meat, and the sides were solid. The male cook or boss had a slightly snippy manner, while the woman working there was friendly. At breakfast, the choice was fine for a hotel of this class, but I really missed having an espresso machine instead of just filter coffee. The bacon was the best I’ve had in any hotel, in any country, with perfect texture, color, and taste. I loved my spacious, comfortable suite in the “new” part of the hotel. Reception varied a lot too, from an unfriendly young guy in the morning to Per and one of the women on the evening shift, who were very friendly. I’d recommend the place and would return when I’m in the area. Per at reception deserves a shoutout, he’s a very nice guy.

I complained at reception about the electrical problems in my room. They said someone would look into them, but nothing was done, and they didn’t offer me another room. One of the room’s only two outlets was broken, and the bathroom lights didn’t work. The rooms were terrible, the furniture very old, and everything felt creepy. All the room had was a DVD player, which I just don’t understand in 2025. This is one of the three worst hotels I’ve stayed in. Guys, stay away.

The breakfast was very nice and included, and the bathroom was OK. There was a small kitchen in the room, which some guests may appreciate. The staff were awesome, but the rooms haven’t been maintained or renovated since we stayed here at least six years ago. They weren’t newly renovated even then. As in much of Sweden, the food had no allergy information. I hope Sweden starts listing this for every dish without people having to ask.
