Best Western Vetlanda Stadshotell

I had Christmas all planned around this hotel, but when I arrived, it was closed. I called, and they confirmed it, even though I had been able to book a room. That left me stranded in the middle of nowhere with nowhere to sleep. They were letting people make bookings while not operating, and didn't even apologize. Unbelievable.

The breakfast was such a treat, with loads of fresh choices: fruit, dairy, bread, toast, eggs, cheese, meats, salmon without those brown edges, and freshly made waffles. There was filter coffee and specialty coffee from a machine, too. The hotel is on a lovely central square, with shops and restaurants within a five-minute walk. I paid SEK 670 including taxes and breakfast, after booking two days ahead. I'd happily stay again, especially since parking on the square is basically free from 16:00 to 09:00 for anyone passing through. I was there one night, Sunday to Monday, and arrived in the late afternoon. A girl with brightly colored hair gave me a warm welcome, and there was even a classy elevator. My single room was small, but the cheerful butterfly wallpaper helped it feel less cramped. It had tea and coffee facilities, and the small bathroom was sufficient, with a thermostatic shower that was good for waking up. The TV reception was unfortunately poor, maybe the satellite dish needs recalibrating, but I kept myself entertained and learned some Swedish.

Getting in after reception had shut was easy: we used the door intercom to get a security code and picked up our key from the desk. The room was clean, though quite warm, and there was a cooling fan in the closet. Breakfast was okay, and parking was easy, close to the entrance.

Breakfast was good and the staff were nice. The hotel was average, though. It got a bit hot without AC, and from the fourth floor I only had one WiFi bar. The TV had just one channel, apart from a couple of strange ones, and there was no HDMI port for plugging in a Chromecast.
