Lejondals Slott

We were so grateful for the stay and will tell everyone we know about it! The staff were kind and genuinely attentive, always putting our needs first. We expected the good service we usually get at Swedish castle hotels, but they went beyond that. The food was top notch too. And for us as dog owners, it was great that dogs are welcome in rooms and shared spaces, with the option to book a doggy retreat for your dog. Loved it! 🐶🍁🧡

I was bothered by how the other guests became part of the unpleasant experience. At dinner, older people dressed as if they were in the 1800s sat openly making nasty comments about how other guests looked and dressed. They seemed to be pretending to be something they weren’t. Good for them, I guess, but it made the atmosphere awful. The rooms are old cottages outside the castle, like an old ski cabin. You pay extra to use the shared bath during a specific slot, and you’re not welcome outside that time. There was no service there, just a table of cheap, help-yourself items. We also paid extra for bath access, but that didn’t make it feel like we had the slot to ourselves. We spent one night there with my girlfriend. To me, this place is for older people who want to pretend, and everyone else should stay far away. It was one of the worst places I’ve visited in Europe.

The location is beautiful and has a lot of potential, which makes the afternoon tea even more disappointing. The buffet was poor for the price. The fruit wasn’t fresh, the sandwiches weren’t appetizing, and the hot water for tea kept running out. For about the same money, you could have a proper afternoon tea at the grand hotel. I expected a lot more, so don’t spend your time traveling here or your money on it. I also tried emailing the address they shared below, but got a message saying it wasn’t a real email address. It felt like they’d only added it for show.

It saddened me to see the cozy furniture taken out of the grand living room to make space for more seats, like in a café. The room was one of Lejondal’s Castle’s main selling points. There are already 200 coffee seats in the other rooms, so ruining the grand room with such poor design felt unnecessary.
