Hyatt Place Gothenburg Central

The room was spacious, and we were really pleased to get an upgrade. For three of us, booking two rooms also worked out better value than one family room. The hotel is right inside the station, handy for getting around and close to shops and restaurants. The area felt clean and safe to me, even though it’s so central. Breakfast gets crowded at peak times, but there’s a good spread, from fruit and pastries to options for dietary restrictions. We could leave our bags before check-in and after checkout, and the gym has weights, a cable machine, and a treadmill. The main drawback was the view of the train tracks.

The breakfast was really good, with nearly everything you could want, and I appreciated finding conditioner in the bathroom after forgetting mine. The rooms were decent too. Best of all, the hotel is inside the central train station, so heading to another city or country is very easy. One of the best places we stayed in Sweden. I’d recommend it.

We could hear station noise and announcements from our room, and there was water leaking in the corridor when we arrived. The room also wasn’t cleaned between our two nights, even though we left before noon and unplugged the key. On top of that, the phone microphone didn’t work. The Wi-Fi failed when we followed the instructions. Reception knew an update had caused problems, but we only found out after going back down to get a manual password. When we arrived, the shower gel was empty; reception couldn’t help and offered hand wash instead. They’d also turned the sofa into a bed without asking, taking up a lot of space. Reception called it a “free upgrade” and said they’d noted our request to change it back, but it still hadn’t been done by the second night.

Getting around was a breeze: the hotel is right by trains, trams, and buses, in the middle of the shopping district and near top restaurants. Staff were nice, and both check-in and checkout were easy. The room felt spacious and cosy, with crisp sheets, a clean, new smell, and a roomy bathroom. The shower pressure was strong and comfortable. Breakfast was included, with the usual Scandinavian and continental choices, though the food felt mass-produced. The bacon was cold and oily, and I didn’t fancy a second breakfast sausage. It was packed by 8:30. For a hotel at a station, it exceeded my expectations, with a feel closer to 4.5 stars.
