Scandic Rubinen

Parking may be tricky for drivers with high-clearance vehicles, since there are no dedicated spaces, and nearby outdoor parking is quite expensive. Apart from that, we had a wonderful family stay in Gothenburg. The location is fantastic, close to everything, and the staff were caring and very helpful. They put our rooms next to each other, brought an electric heater when we came back from Liseberg freezing, and quickly got us an extra mattress when the sofa bed wasn't comfortable for our child.

The room was tiny, not properly cleaned, and smelled damp. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was poor, so we ended up eating at the McDonald’s next door. I've stayed at several Scandic hotels, and this was by far my worst experience with the chain. We travel to Gothenburg often for work, but our usual hotels were full, so we booked here. The lobby was crowded and chaotic when we arrived, with a very long reception queue. The staff seemed stressed and impatient, and spoke to guests unprofessionally. They didn't seem to treat one another well either, which made the atmosphere unpleasant from the start. Communication was difficult too. The staff didn't speak fluent Swedish and had very limited English, giving the impression the front desk team wasn't sufficiently trained. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

I really enjoyed my stay. The breakfast was good, and there was a sauna plus a fitness room with decent equipment. The location is great. The room quality might not quite justify the price, though.

Breakfast had what I wanted, and there was a separate lactose-free and gluten-free corner. The rooms felt clean and fresh, the atmosphere was good, and the staff were polite and helpful.
