Upper House

We stayed at Upper House through the Volvo Overseas Delivery program and were thrilled with our choice. It’s a top-tier hotel experience. The spa was the standout for us, one of the best we’ve visited, with several pools, a cold plunge, and multiple places to relax. We especially liked the quiet room, with comfortable loungers and a stunning city view. The spa alone is worth a visit. Our suite was spacious and beautifully designed, with floor-to-ceiling windows and amazing views. Having two full his-and-hers bathrooms was a fantastic luxury. We didn’t use the separate living room much, but appreciated the extra space. One small issue: we were there during unusually hot weather, and the AC struggled when we left the curtains open to enjoy the view. That may have been due to the extreme weather, but it’s something to know. The other amenities were excellent too. Breakfast was delicious and varied, with a great view, and dinner at Heaven 23 was solid and enjoyable. Every staff member we encountered was professional, polite, and genuinely courteous. A practical note: the self-parking entrance was a little hard to find, so we used valet parking, which was seamless and easy. We’d highly recommend Upper House and would gladly return to Gothenburg.

The spa was so lovely that I could easily have spent an entire afternoon there, especially with that panoramic pool and its slightly scary glass floor. I booked one night at the standard rate, which included breakfast and spa access, and Molly and the front desk team kindly upgraded my room. Such a thoughtful touch, and I really appreciated it. The hotel feels very modern, has lots of great facilities and spectacular views, and the staff were all friendly and helpful. It’s also well placed, just a short tram ride from central Gothenburg and close to Liseberg. I’d definitely recommend staying here for the views, facilities and lovely team.

The spa was the highlight for me. Eric explained how everything worked, and I had an amazing time. That outdoor see-through pool is a fun novelty, and the place has an almost otherworldly feel once you’re inside. The hotel also has a restaurant with amazing views, plus a 25th-floor bar where we stopped for a nightcap after a day out. Vord was funny, informative and great company there. Breakfast was full of flavor, healthy and suitable for the kids too. We loved it and felt better for it all day. Reception was kind and knowledgeable, and Molly was a lovely, welcome face after a long day. There’s dedicated check-in as well. From the spa to the restaurant, we had a great experience, and the warm, helpful staff made us feel at home.

The rooms are basic, and breakfast was mediocre. The spa is quiet and relaxing, though a little sterile. You have to go to another floor for drinks apart from water from the one machine. When my spa time ended, I wanted a proper cold glass of water from reception to take back to my room, but they wouldn’t allow it. That instantly spoiled a moment of calm I badly needed. Silly rules turned what could have been a good experience into a frustrating one.
