Helsingborg Hostel

The room was filthy. There was body hair in my bed, makeup on the pillow, stains on the chairs and a broken door. Even the public showers and toilets were dirty. I felt really unsafe and wouldn’t recommend booking here if you want a good night’s sleep. If you have other options, book somewhere else.

Even though the hostelroom was beautiful, we girls didn’t feel safe. We only saw old men, who seemed to be staying longer than a short trip. Some looked like they might have social problems.

Better than I expected. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and each room has a fridge and sink. Toilets were clean too, though some showers need an upgrade. There are plenty of common areas and a big kitchen. I didn’t meet any staff. They emailed codes for getting in and picking up the key. Three supermarkets and some restaurants are close by, and it’s a 10 min walk to the train station and town center.

The staff were nice and helped with our luggage before check-in, so we didn’t have to carry it around. The room was okay for the price, with a fridge and freezer, which we hadn’t realized we’d have. If we’d known, we could have brought breakfast food instead of buying breakfast out. There’s no breakfast provided, just an electric kettle with instant coffee and tea. We had to call to get the door codes and keys, even though we’d been told the details were emailed. The staff were helpful and texted them to us, but having to ask was a minus. Later we figured the email had been scheduled incorrectly: it arrived at 02:00 instead of 14:00, an hour before check-in. Easy mistake. There wasn’t much soundproofing or ventilation. We heard lots of door slams and outside noise where we slept. One toilet was fresh and nice, but the other was disgusting. The central station is perhaps 10min away on foot. With those caveats, I’d recommend it as an easy, cheap stay in Helsingborg if you’re mostly out and about rather than spending time in the room or common areas.
