City Apartments in Jonkoping

We slept with every window open, but the heavy smoke smell throughout the apartment, from the rooms and beds to the curtains, wouldn’t go away. My wife gets migraines, so we had booked a non-smoking room. This smelled like long-term, heavy smoking, not one guest having a cigarette, and there’s no way it could have been missed before we rented the place. We were moved to another room after calling the staff. The rooms were dirty and the building was in very poor shape, but we could have lived with that. When we said a reduction in the payment seemed appropriate, the staff member suddenly got “very busy” and said he’d call back. We’ve called several times since. A couple of times we reached someone, but he was always too busy and promised to get back to us. He never did.

The place was noisy, and we could hear everyone around us. The tap water smelled and tasted like a swimming pool, so we couldn’t drink it. For almost the price of a really good hotel, I expected much better. This felt overpriced and more like a hostel, with little personality. Everything was dusty and run down. There were no hooks for jackets or towels, no kitchen towels, a dirty dish brush with food stuck to it, and broken blinds. The kitchen fan light didn’t work, and some pillows were lumpy enough that they should have been thrown out years ago. The springs in the kid bed poked through and hurt our daughter. It could have been an awesome place, but it wasn’t.

It’s an old apartment, so I didn’t expect a lot. The floor creaks when you walk, but having some basic kitchen appliances was nice. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the central station.

The host was super nice and generous, and was always available when we had questions. The apartment was really clean and well equipped. We’d be happy to come back.
