Tokeryds Herrgård

The building is beautiful, has history, and is positioned so you get a view. There’s good furniture, coffee included with the stay, a sauna, WiFi, a knight’s armour, a pool table, and a shop within 50 meters. It could be perfect for a work stay, and I’d visit again if staff spent most of their working hours there or on the tasks they were hired to do. I got to the Herrgård after the electric car I’d rented from Cirkel K in Linköping ran out of battery in Jönköping. Andreas Olausson, the owner or manager of the petrol station, had assured me that he’d checked and charged it to 100%, and that one charge would cover 500kms. I’d set off straight from Linköping towards central Europe, enjoying the beautiful scenery surrounded by water, before the car broke down. I saw a sign suggesting there was some kind of hospitality place next door. I went into the nearest house and realized it was private, and that the place I was looking for was farther down the road. I thought it was another community with treacherous signs. At the Herrgård, I couldn’t find a receptionist or staff member. I called the number I found, but no one answered, so I made myself comfortable on a couch in the dining area. I woke before breakfast was served so I wouldn’t get in the way, moved my gear to a dayroom, hung out, and ate Marabou until I was asked to leave. By then the lady had returned from what seemed to be an overseas vacation, judging by the leisurely response time to guests. I asked about renting a room, and she told me to walk six KMs to the right to find Jönköping.

The view is amazing, and the location is really nice. Still, it was below what I expected. The hotel is very quiet, maybe too quiet, and feels a bit old fashioned. The rooms are very basic.

It’s a pretty hotel in a mansion, and the owner is helpful and nice. We had a pleasant stay despite the renovation work going on. The drive downhill into the city is lovely, with nice views, and it’s close by car.

You’ll need a car to get around. It’s a peaceful setting, with a good location, good rooms, excellent beds, a nice breakfast, and friendly staff.
