Best Western Karlshamn

The reception staff were polite, at least. The restaurant was a different story: the staff seemed annoyed we were there, barely spoke to us, and showed no interest in serving us. On top of that, our supposedly sound-isolated room let us hear everything from the neighboring rooms. It wasn't a pleasant stay.

I was there for educational purposes and spent time in a few different areas, though I never saw the rooms themselves. The parts I did see were lovely, so I can only imagine the rooms are just as nice. The place has a stylish, modern look with the feel of an old pub. A really nice place.

The rooms were good, though they got hot in summer. The bathroom and toilet looked like they were made in 1999, which I remember well 😀. The doors also shut very loudly. Breakfast was the usual Scandinavian eggs and bacon, but much too salty. The restaurant space looked four-star, and the waffle maker was the best part of breakfast. When we arrived with a reservation, two women at reception kept us waiting and started charging extra for the dog and baby. The bar was empty, with no bartender. I was going to order a Negroni, but the receptionist poured me a beer instead; making the cocktail seemed to be a problem, as she started looking through a book for the recipe.

The superior room had an adjustable bed, which was great, and a Dolce Gusto coffee machine, though the room itself was small. The hotel feels renovated and clean, but there's nothing especially memorable about it. It's convenient for a work or meeting stay, but it's on the edge of town and you'll need a car. Breakfast was disappointing: bad scrambled eggs, salad that didn't always look fresh, and plates that weren't consistently refilled when it got busy. The staff didn't seem to know how to keep up. They claim it's The Best breakfast by Tina Nordstrom, but I think she'd be appalled by how lackluster it was. It's fine as a convenience hotel, but easy to forget.
