Dufweholms Herrgård

The breakfast was a real plus, and the surroundings had a huge wow factor. We stayed at the B&B, where the atmosphere had that lovely old British feel. The owners have clearly put a lot of work into making the place special. We were pleasantly surprised and will definitely visit again.

We booked the Walk & SPA package with an overnight stay. Even with snow falling, the walk was pleasant, and we really liked the food, the friendly staff and the manor’s historic feel, both inside and around it. Service was a little slow, perhaps because they were short staffed during the pandemic, so I’d have rated it a five with quicker service. Still, it’s a wonderful place to visit.

The manor setting is beautiful, on a small artificial island surrounded by gardens and lovely scenery. There’s a spa, restaurant, museum and shop too. We booked a package with a map and packed lunch for a hike, spa access, a two-course dinner, and a night with breakfast. The nostalgia museum was a lovely surprise. They kindly opened it for us when we asked. The lunch was pretty good, though it came in a paper bag that wasn’t easy to carry in a backpack. You can also charge an EV for 100 SEK, which was one reason we chose this stop. The hotel has an interesting historic feel, with spacious rooms and mostly modern conveniences. But we found dust and dirt in corners of both rooms and common areas, and there were spiders about. Some lights were broken, the walls were very thin, and the toilet kept dripping. Breakfast was good, though not especially memorable. I did appreciate the nice teas. The spa was decent, but with so many people admitted at once, there wasn’t much chance to enjoy it alone. The restaurant used high-quality ingredients, but our meals disappointed us: the fish entrée was bland, and the duck breast was sinewy. Drinks at dinner and in the spa weren’t from particularly fine brands, though the prices suggested otherwise. Champagne fans might still enjoy coming for that. We had a mostly nice stay, but the experience didn’t quite justify the cost.

I spent two nights here with my wife and kids for my birthday, and we all enjoyed it. The place is lavishly renovated, with antiques throughout, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They spared no expense on the food or ingredients. I’d recommend walking around the lake, borrowing the bikes, and trying the rowing boat.
