Salt & Sill

I loved the food at both restaurants and the kiosk, and the sea is right there, with a great view from a large, tidy room. Staff were genuinely helpful and friendly throughout my four nights in mid-July. The village is peaceful but there’s plenty to do nearby. Summer public transport wasn’t great, though I could still get most places. A rental car or bike would make getting around easier. Klädesholmen was a lovely place to visit, but the hotel itself wasn’t the stay I’d hoped for. The main issue was privacy. With so many windows, people passing by could see right into ground-floor rooms. That included hotel guests and people heading to the bar or restaurant. I had to choose between shutting the blinds and losing the sea view or keeping the view and feeling exposed. On my last day, three boats tied up directly outside my room, which made it worse. The wooden building also carried every footstep from nearby and upstairs rooms. When a family with young children stayed above me, the noise was sometimes hard to bear. Breakfast only ran for two hours, so it got crowded and I sometimes had to queue whenever I went to get food. I also wished there had been a bathrobe and slippers in the room, given how close it is to the water, but neither was provided. I think the hotel would suit me better if it were adults only, the room windows were mirrored from outside, and boats couldn’t dock in front of the rooms. Next time I visit Klädesholmen, I’d probably book an Airbnb in the village and come to Salt & Sill for the great food. Three stars for the hotel, five for the restaurants and kiosk.

We had a great stay. The rooms were nicely presented and had everything we needed. It’s a quiet, lovely spot, and you can walk into the village. There isn’t much choice for eating elsewhere since the restaurant seems to be the only one around. The food is good, but not cheap.

We had lunch after our sauna session, and the food was lovely. My friend and I had the boat and sauna to ourselves for the full two hours, with cozy dressing gowns and slippers. It was such a relaxing way to unwind, just the two of us there. Definitely worth a visit to the area.

I haven’t stayed overnight myself, but my sister did years ago and loved it. For dinner, if you’re after a full Swedish experience, I’m happy to recommend this place. It’s right by the water with lovely views, the staff were very attentive, and the food was amazing. There’s plenty of free parking outside the hotel and restaurant.
