Uncle Joe's

The rooms are tiny, but surprisingly practical, and everything was clean and well cared for. Staff were friendly and helpful. It's handy for Visby city center, though the surroundings aren't especially nice. Showers and toilets are shared and work fine, but how clean they stay depends on the other guests. Recommended if you just need somewhere to sleep. If I return to Gotland, I'll definitely stay at Uncle Joe's again.

The staff aren't around at night, and several doors creaked so loudly in the silence that it was awful trying to leave the room without waking the kids. Please oil the hinges. The double rooms are tiny, like ship cabins. The larger family room has a tall continental bed and a double bunk bed. Sheets were clean and the rooms generally clean. Toilets and showers are shared and tidy, though the shower pressure was low, reportedly because of drought. The simple breakfast does the job. It would be nice to have the butter in eco-friendly packaging, given all the real milk alternatives they serve. There was a shared kitchen with fridges and capsule coffee. I noticed eggshells on the dining room floor from Sunday still sitting there on Wednesday, so it probably wasn't cleaned during the week. There weren't many overnight guests during the week, which helped since the walls and doors aren't soundproof. The place gets busy during the day with bowling and other activities, but it quiets down after work hours. Three out of five feels fair, not good, not terrible.

Breakfast was included, a typical Scandinavian spread of bread, ham, eggs, yogurt and muesli, plus complimentary espresso capsules. The room was clean, with a comfortable bed, TV and sink. The shared showers and toilets were clean too. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The entrance signs to the hotel could be clearer. Check-in and checkout were contactless and worked amazingly well. The rooms, shared bathrooms and shared kitchen were well organized and maintained, and breakfast was decent and included.
