Visby Fängelse - Hostel

It's a really cool, funky place in an old jail. If you're checking in late, make sure you have all the entry details. I was told they would send them, but nothing arrived. I got lucky when I showed up, otherwise I might have ended up sleeping in my car.

The garden out back was especially fun, and the cozy rooms have a really cool old-jail look. There's a restaurant right across from the hostel, which makes it a nice place to hang out. My one complaint was the luggage room. It was actually a garage, and very dirty.

The service staff were great, and the location was convenient. They also offered free luggage storage. Otherwise, this hostel was pretty basic. I was put in a cabin, with the shower and toilet 10-20 meters away along an uncovered path. The showers were poor, and you had to keep pressing the button to get water for a couple of minutes. Linen wasn't included, though you could rent it, and the cabin Wi-Fi was bad. There was no curfew, so one group laughed and played music until 6 am.

The beds were comfortable, the price was cheap, and the staff were nice. There's a shared kitchen with utensils, which was useful. The place has an interesting history and is very close to the pier, about a 10-minute walk from the town center.
