The staff were friendly and the distillery sits in a pretty spot overlooking fields. The buffet lunch was a letdown, though. Like most places on this tiny island, it was overpriced. Lunch for three cost twice what you’d pay at a basic London restaurant. There was no local produce or much thought in the food. The buffet selection was poor, with a salmon dish and creamy beef pasta as the mains when we visited. Side salads were unimaginative, straight from a pack, and cold from the fridge. If school dinners are your thing, you might like it. Coffee wasn’t included.

The restaurant was on the pricey side compared with other spots on the island, but the food quality and service made up for it. Lunch was delicious, and they kindly switched our fried cod for grilled cod when we asked. We really appreciated that.

It feels like a place without a soul, all colorful feathers that don’t deliver on their promises. Of the staff, one person smiled and talked with us. I’ve worked in restaurants for over 10 years, so I feel confident saying the restaurant management needs changing. Bring in someone who knows how to treat people and pair wine with food.

At lunch, they made me a separate vegan option, since the buffet only had regular choices. That was great. I had a very pleasant stay, with friendly staff and excellent service.

A good spot for food, a conference, or a proper whisky tasting. The surroundings are pleasant and the staff friendly. The public bus runs straight from the harbour and back.
