Lilla Hotellet

I ended up here for one night after maintenance work disrupted the trains back to Stockholm. It was a lovely little hotel, and the price and location suited a night or two in one of Sweden's loveliest small cities. I'd absolutely stay again. My room was very clean and had what I needed for an overnight stop. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was good, and I enjoyed a nice shower. The curtains seemed a little short for the windows, but it wasn't a big deal. As is standard with Swedish hotels, there was no kettle for making tea or coffee. Check-in took a little fiddling, including a short wait for someone to answer the door phone. The check-in itself was quick, and the keyless entry worked well. It made the place seem quite secure overnight. I don't know how arrival works when reception is closed, which is from 2 PM on weekends. Breakfast was pretty good, with the usual Swedish options. Some foreign guests might be glad there was no Sill. There was bread, cheese, meat, yoghurt, cereal, orange juice, and coffee, enough to start my day.

We stayed at Lilla Hotellet, a nearby property of Hotel Savoy, for its handy spot near both the train station and city center. We'd read the reviews and weren't expecting much, but the room was nice, cozy, and big enough for the three of us. There were no smells and no outside noise. The main problem was the temperature. We couldn't control it, and the room was very cold because the only radiator, on the central heating, barely gave off any heat. Breakfast is at nearby Hotel Savoy, which isn't very comfortable to walk to on cold, rainy mornings.

The code-based entry worked well, and they respected my do not disturb sign. Sleep was harder: the room's translucent white curtains did little to block daylight, and the bathroom ventilation fan whirred loudly enough to hear through the closed door. Breakfast had an odd selection and wasn't served until 8 on the weekend. If you're picky, plan to eat elsewhere, and bring a sleep mask and ear plugs.

I had a fantastic stay. The room was well appointed, with large bright windows, nice linen, and a good bed. The courtyard was beautiful, and breakfast had a great spread to start the day. Highly recommended.
