Elite Hotel Savoy

The room was spacious, with stylish decor in a recently renovated 1930s style, and the hotel is right across from the railway station. The university and city centre are both about a five-minute walk away. Breakfast had plenty of room, though keeping the buffet stocked seemed to challenge the staff. Over all three days, the cook couldn't get my soft-boiled egg right. The staff were kind, if a little transactional.

That burger at the adjacent Bishops arms was great. The hotel also had friendly staff, pleasant rooms, a superb breakfast, and a minibar and tea-making setup in the room, which you don't find everywhere these days. The reason for my middling score was the renovation work in October 2025. It woke people up loudly at 5:30 a.m., and there'd been no mention of it when booking or adjustment to the price.

Breakfast had a huge range, from fruit, cookies, muffins, cereal and chia seeds to salads, pastries, salami, cheese, eggs and sausages. There were also yoghurt, milk, juice, coffee and tea, plus warm American pancakes and different jams. I liked being able to toast the bread and buns. Weekend mornings came with quiet music in the larger dining room, a lovely touch. My room looked over a canal, especially pretty at night, and had a comfortable amount of space, an iron and ironing board, and a hair dryer. The bathroom was roomy too, with a nice selection of toiletries. I was welcomed with a bottle of wine, snacks, and coffee and tea bags for the in-room coffee maker. The room could also be upgraded with a robe and slippers. The staff were excellent, professional and helpful, and the room was exceptionally clean. The lobby is elegant, with lounges that made me feel like I'd stepped into an Agatha Christie's novel. There's a large poster in the breakfast area for the play based on her The Murder at the Savoy, and the whole place is very Instagramable if you like taking photos. Malmo Central station and the airport shuttle bus station are just steps away, and the main places in Malmo are within walking distance. I really enjoyed staying at the Elite Hotel Savoy and plan to come back whenever I'm in Malmo.

The croissants were amazing, and I really liked the service. The accommodation was decent, though the room felt cramped and some areas weren't very accessible. Hauling luggage over steps wasn't fun. The building has a nice old-world feel, though. It gets 4/5 on my croissant-o-meter.
