The setting is beautiful, the building is lovely, and the food was really good. I’ve visited twice over the past year and a half, though, and both times I had several bad experiences with one staff member. The Asian woman kept arguing with other staff in front of guests about how things should be done, and her attitude was lacking.

The staff and service were wonderful, and there were good things about the rooms and the hotel. But the noise at night made it impossible to sleep, which was truly disappointing. Around midnight, a group of about 20 people started partying right outside my room, talking loudly and playing music. The windows weren’t soundproof, so I could hear every word. I called reception to ask them to deal with it, then called again to ask for the outdoor lights to be switched off. Neither request was fulfilled, and the noise went on for an hour. People looking to party late might enjoy this place, but I can’t recommend it to anyone seeking a relaxing stay in nature or expecting luxury. That level of noise is a fatal flaw for accommodation. If you want to relax, I strongly recommend finding another hotel.

The beds were super soft and comfortable, and the restaurant staff were friendly. The mini room really was mini, and you do have to walk a bit from your room building to the main one, but it was fine. The location is beautiful. When my partner and I couldn’t manage kayaking, they easily switched our booking to SUPs. Some dinner dishes are better than others, so maybe choose the burger over the mussels.

The area around the hotel was lovely, and waiter Emanuel was very kind, but our Easter weekend as a couple was a big disappointment. We’d looked forward to the three-course Easter dinner, but the dining room felt more like a school classroom than a welcoming restaurant. The soup was cold, the mains tasteless, and the desserts unappealing. Other tables seemed unhappy with the food too. We were given a room in a pavilion outside the main building. There was no elevator, and the room was tiny, with no kettle, minibar, or wardrobe. The beds were much too soft, there was barely room to open our suitcases, and the shower flooded the whole bathroom floor. When we asked for towels and robes for the sauna, we were told robes cost 100 kr to rent, which surprised us since we expected them to be included in the room price. We’d expected much more from this hotel.
