Östanå's paper mill opened in 1797 and grew into a major industry, producing high-quality printing paper that was exported in large quantities to countries including England and Japan. It also made matches and carbon black, a black pigment. The mill shut down in 1980.

The welcome was lovely, the breakfast was good, and the bed was comfortable. The beautiful building has a family atmosphere, and I really have nothing to complain about.

Östanå is a pleasant little village, almost like a suburb of the Broby community in Östra Göinge. The Helge River runs through Östanå, in Östra Göinge municipality.
