First Camp Mörudden Karlstad

The setting was beautiful, and this was one of the best campsites on our EU tour. There are two bathroom options: private toilet and shower rooms that are very well equipped, plus a large block of more traditional facilities. The restaurant seemed fine, but the menu was too limited for our family. Luckily, there were lots of other places to eat nearby.

Our pitch was assigned, though other campers had looked around first and asked for the spot they preferred. There was plenty of room for our 7m caravan, awning and car. The ground was dry and powdery, so we had to hammer the pegs back in when it was windy, but that was the only issue. The beach was lovely, with swimming and a playground. The toilets and showers were great. It seemed like there weren’t many, but even with the site full we never had to wait. I’d been a little concerned by some reviews, yet we didn’t run into any problems. There was also a nice shared TV room and kitchen, though we didn’t use them.

We stayed two nights in a tent with electricity, for two people, and paid 320 SEK. I’m not sure what others were unhappy about, since we had a wonderful visit and made use of nearly everything. The area was very quiet, including at night, with the forest nearby. Paying 40SEK extra for a caravan site suited to 10m+ rigs seemed worthwhile, since those spots are better. There’s a swimming beach, things for kids, a nearby restaurant and nice paths around the area. Service building Nr 2 has been renovated recently. It had four clean, spacious showers with good pressure and temperature, free to use and without push buttons, plus about ten toilets. The kitchen was clean and large, with tables and chairs, two microwaves, two stoves, an oven, a few sinks and a fridge. Nothing to complain about. The owners were friendly, and WiFi was free and good, though it did occasionally drop out. You need a key card for the buildings and the boom gate.

So far, this has been my best stay with First Camp. It’s a small, quiet campsite with all the facilities available, great service and a lovely view. The strand and beaches are amazing.
