Smögens Gästhem

The food was really nice, and the location is great. I’d recommend it.

We were four adults staying at the end of July, with two double rooms. The location just above Smögenbryggan suited us perfectly, and we valued it most. The guesthouse was clean and fresh, with a reasonable standard. Our beds were wonderfully comfortable, and the fans in the rooms were welcome in the heat. The owners were very nice, too. There’s a packed breakfast at the restaurant around the corner, with a wonderful sea view. The showers on the ground floor could do with newer floors, though that may happen soon. This isn’t a good fit for anyone who struggles with stairs or is sensitive to noise, since nightlife can disturb you. We enjoyed our stay and could imagine coming back. One thing to know: parking on Smögen is expensive and hard to find in high season. We parked at ICA nearby, and two days cost 688 SEK.

The shared bathrooms had creaky doors, and outside there was shouting from passersby until 4:00 AM, plus the neighbor taking out the trash in the middle of the night. Our roommate snored all night as well. It made for a horrible night. The rooms are nicely decorated, but that was about the only positive. Given the price and location, we had expected a good stay.

I’d read very mixed reviews beforehand, and unfortunately I can’t recommend this place. The sheets had stains. The owner had said we could use the outdoor area, but some happy Gothenburgers yelled at us as we walked past, then we were warned that it wasn’t quiet. It was only 6:30 pm, which felt ridiculous. The breakfast was expensive and crappy, though the pier is close by.
