It's a short walk to the harbour, and the location is pretty good. Finding reception took a bit of figuring out: it's in the basement, to the right of the dining room at the right-hand entrance. The room had a small fridge, which was handy, but it wasn't great otherwise. The ceiling light and one wall outlet didn't work, and the TV was very small. There are shared showers and a toilet in each room. There was a basement space for preparing food, but we didn't use it, so I can't comment on it.

The staff were nice, and since we visited on a quiet weekend, we got a free upgrade to a better room. Nothing fancy, but it was just right for us. The kitchen has what you need, with a food locker for each room, though it can get busy and fill up fast in the morning. Showers are shared and separated for men and women. It's affordable and pleasant, in a fairly central spot. The train and bus station is about a 15-minute walk away, the ferries to the Koster Islands are about 10 minutes on foot, and Systembolaget, Coop, and several restaurants are very close.

You can't really expect hotel-level service here, I guess you get what you pay for. The staff were friendly, though, and the location is okay, within walking distance of downtown Strömstad.
