Hotell Vasteras

The owner raised her voice, brought in two staff members to confront me loudly, and even threatened to call security. That was intimidating and completely unnecessary. I had only calmly asked why the bill had suddenly gone up. This wasn't about refusing to pay an extra fee, but about the lack of honesty and transparency that made the situation feel like a scam. I'd booked by phone for two adults, a baby, and a cat. Before I confirmed, I was clearly told the total would be 1250 SEK. At checkout I was asked for 1600 SEK, with no explanation beforehand. It was a very disappointing experience. I expected fair treatment and respectful communication, not aggression for asking about a sudden price change. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone who values clear communication, integrity, or a welcoming atmosphere. There are better places where guests are treated with basic respect.

The bed was comfortable, and the location was great in the city. Breakfast was simple but alright, and cozy. We were glad to find a room we could book the day before, but the stay was clearly overpriced for a hotel with such poor maintenance. Some outlets were switched off over the weekend, so we couldn't charge our phone by the bed, and most of the lights in the room didn't work. The elevator door wouldn't open on the fourth floor, so we had to get off on the third and use the stairs. The shower soap was empty, and housekeeping didn't clean our room during our two-day stay. Service was very poor.

The rooms were clean, the price was okay, and breakfast was decent. The location is excellent, right in the heart of Vasteras, so Hotell Vasteras may do if you just need a clean bed there. I can't recommend it based on my stay, though. The rooms were old and completely unmaintained, with ripped walls, torn curtains, battered floors, and stained ceilings. The air conditioning didn't work well. Service wasn't great either: the front desk answered every question with “Sorry I don't know,” and management made us change rooms without warning or regard for our schedule.

For a short, low-budget trip, it was okay for a night: the rooms and bathrooms were clean and tidy, and the location was handy, with restaurants and shops nearby and about 1 km from Västerås central station. The rooms are small and there's not much on offer, which seems to explain the low price. Breakfast was very simple and limited. Don't be surprised if you arrive and it's already gone, with nobody there to help. On weekends, reception closes at 5 pm, so there's no meet and greet.
