PM & Vänner Hotel

Mixed experience at dinner for 7 on Christmas Day. The food was very good, 5/5. The rooster breast and sauce were excellent 👍 The sommelier seemed disengaged, never checked whether we needed anything else, and didn’t make a personal connection. He took away my unfinished drink without asking. It looked like he didn’t want to be there. 🤦

We spent one night here. The rooms were tidy and well kept, with a modern feel, and the rooftop pool was pretty good, with a nice view. Dinner at the upstairs bar was very good and felt like good value. We really enjoyed breakfast. It was the classic Swedish hotel spread you’d expect, but the locally produced ingredients and homemade dishes made it a step up. I’d strongly recommend it.

PM & Vänner has pleasant service, a pool, sauna and a really tiny gym. If that gym isn’t enough, they work with a local gym. The staff are polite and speak softly, and the included breakfast is one of the better hotel breakfasts I’ve seen. At first glance, the room is beautiful, with modern design and lots of natural and artificial light. But some of the design choices, especially in the bathroom, are impractical and annoying.

The sommelier brought the experience down. He stood behind his wine bottle the whole time and barely interacted with us. When we said he could be a little more personable, he joked that he’d have to ask his wife. That didn’t feel up to the Michelin standard. We came to the one-Michelin-star PM & Vänner in Växjö with high expectations. The kitchen was excellent, the dishes refined, and when one course had a mistake, it was put right smoothly and professionally. The rest of the staff were friendly and made the atmosphere pleasant.
