The hostel is next to a nightclub, so it was noisy until morning. Inside, the six-bed mixed room was very dirty, with hair on the floor, bugs on the bed and crawling on the curtain. The air conditioning barely helped, and the Wi-Fi kept cutting in and out. The bathroom smelled awful and was filthy enough that you had to pass the trash bin; there were only three showers for the whole hostel. The pillow-side area and room were dirty too. The third floor seemed to be used as a boarding house for Indian residents, and when its door opened, the clothes hanging on the ladder gave off a “nice” aroma. The photos in the listing are a fraud. This place has set my new standard for the worst hostel. If you want to experience the worst hostel ever, this is the spot, or a setting for a YouTube video about Singapore’s worst-reviewed hostel.

I told them before arriving in Singapore that I’d be getting in after midnight. When we reached checker's backpackers, it was closed, so I called the number they had given us. They were rude and made us wait half an hour. When the manager finally arrived, he said he’d given my room to someone else because we hadn’t shown up, and that he didn’t know I was arriving after midnight.

The rooms and beds were okay, and the common area was decent, though small for how many people can stay there. There’s only a microwave, so there’s nowhere to properly cook. The rest of the facilities were horrible: just two showers and two toilets for around 20 men, I guess, and the same setup for women. The men's toilets looked very dirty and poorly maintained.

I found fresh blood on the pillow itself when I tried to remove the filthy pillowcase they’d given me. There was mold on the walls beside the beds, bugs including roaches, and the bathrooms were so foul I skipped showering. At the price we paid, I wasn’t expecting luxury, but there’s no excuse for this. This place should be shut down.

I was on a business trip in Singapore for about a week and wanted an inexpensive place to help keep costs down. Checkers Backpackers covered the basic needs for staying abroad, and I was happy with the services for what I paid. Mr. Philip was cooperative during my stay, and the experience was wonderful.
