Hotel 81 Bugis

The location is excellent, close to cafes, Bugis Junction, trains, and buses. The room is a decent size for the price, and there’s a lift. Hot water was good, there were no bad smells, and the linen smelled fresh. During both stays, we got two pillows per guest, which some similar hotels don’t provide. The front desk staff were polite and friendly, but room cleaning needs work. There was hair from previous guests in the shower drain, and the floor, especially the narrow strip beside the bed, hadn’t been cleaned properly. The hotel could use some improvements. Bathroom hooks for clothes would be welcome, especially where the toilet is in the same room.

The staff were helpful with everything, and the location made it easy to get around on foot, by metro, or by bus. We stayed two nights. Our first room had no window and felt very small and humid, but thankfully the staff moved us to another room the next day.

I once stayed in a little motel in Alabama during a very low point in my life. It had ceiling mold, blood still drying on the floor after an unexplained incident the night before, huge bed bugs in the shower that only appeared once the room filled with steam, and water that made my gums burn and recede when I brushed my teeth. That was the worst place I’d stayed in until Hotel 81 Bugis. I feel awful for anyone who has to stay here. I know it’s cheap, but I thought, “It’s Singapore! How bad could it possibly be?” Now I know a new low. The shower and toilet are combined, there are only about five inches around the bed and that’s the entire room, the sheets were stained, the AC didn’t work, and there’s just one elevator for the whole hotel, limited to four people. A few hours after checking in, I found a beautiful four-star hotel 12 minutes away for $20 more per night. When I tried to check out immediately, I was told I had to pay for three full nights even though I’d only stayed half a day. I was upset, but glad I could pay to leave. This place needs to be condemned, torn down, and rebuilt.

The room was damp and suffocating, with no windows and a toilet ventilator that didn’t work. The sheets smelled musty and looked dirty, and using the bed made me itchy. The whole place felt unhygienic and badly maintained. My stay was one of my worst experiences. At around 7:25 PM on 4 Sep 2025, the woman at the counter was extremely rude and unhelpful, leaving a terrible first impression. I’d strongly advise against staying here.
