Philip Hotel

The location is perfect. Mustafa Centre is 2 minutes away, Tekka Centre is 10 minutes away, City Square Mall is nearby if you prefer conventional malls, and you can walk to 4 MRT stations. Rooms are a little small but have everything you need. The mattress was quite hard, though I could still sleep on it. Staff were very friendly, even if they weren’t always visible.

There are huge food choices, including a restaurant just below that’s open almost all day. The staff are nice and genuine, though English doesn’t seem to be their first language, so be patient as they’re trying their best. I think the negative reviews saying the location is suspicious are completely false. This is Singapore, and the police station is literally 100m from the hotel, so it’s impossible for the location to be unsafe.

The area around the hotel felt very unpleasant and unsafe, with piles of garbage everywhere. The room we got wasn’t the type we booked, and it was filthy, smelly, and had terrible bedsheets. It also had a suspicious connecting door. The room looked nothing like the photos in the app. The price wasn’t even cheap, only slightly below the market rate, so it feels like many people must have been tricked. All the reviews on the app are fake and misleading, and honest negative reviews get deleted. The condition of the room and the serious lack of security were so unacceptable that we left less than an hour after checking in, despite having booked two nights. When we told the receptionist we wanted to check out right away, they begged us to give them another chance with a “better” room the next day. WORST hotel I’ve ever come to. WORST!!!

The hotel’s location and decoration are good, but the lady manager’s behaviour was awful. She doesn’t know how to handle clients nicely. I stayed there on October 1 and 2. The hotel management should sack that type of employee or teach them how to treat clients properly.
