Pillow Talk Hostel

The main advantage is how close the hostel is to the MRT station. It’s suited to travelers who only want to catch 40 winks and can sleep through outside noise. The AC also stops working just when you’re trying to turn in, so I just couldn’t sleep. The guy at reception said he couldn’t do anything. I’d only visit once unless I couldn’t afford anything else decent in Singapore.

The price is what first caught my eye while I was comparing places online, and it was very affordable. The hostel is in a peaceful spot near a food court, though the MRT is about 4-5 blocks or a 15-minute walk away. I had a female dorm bed, my own room key, and a locker. Everything is self-service, including making your own toast and adding jam, and the owner leaves you to your own schedule. The room, dining area, and bathroom are close together and pretty cramped, which makes sense for what we paid. Still, I had a nice stay.

Hair dryers and washing machines are available, and the staff were good. The location is good too, and the price is low. It seems better suited to backpackers than regular tourists. The breakfast was just bread, and the room got too cold at night, so sleeping on the lower bed would be better.

The photos online didn't match what we found, and this was the worst hostel I've stayed in. The shared areas where talking was allowed were a 0 out of 10, while in the bedroom there was a no-talking rule and cameras in every corner, so it was hard to talk with other travelers. The location wasn't great either, pretty far from the Gardens. Bathrooms were tiny, dirty, and usually smelled awful. The brick wallpaper was coming off inside our capsule, and the slippers they supplied were dirty and shared among all the guests. Breakfast meant one piece of toast with jam, and the jar was empty about half the time. We slept under the air conditioner, but couldn't get extra blankets the first night because there was no staff on overnight. I'd only recommend this place to travelers who need a cheap bed for one night and aren't concerned about the living conditions. If you can afford it, spend a bit more for somewhere else in town.
