Kam Leng Hotel by ZEN Rooms

There are no pool or breakfast, but cleanliness was acceptable, the staff were polite, bottled water in the room was a nice touch, and we saw no insects. The deposit was returned easily, and check-in and checkout were straightforward. The renovated rooms are small, though that's common in Singapore outside luxury hotels. The location is okay, but being between two metro lines means a 10 minute walk with luggage. It's expensive, and a cheaper hotel might be available. A 7/12 is across the street. We didn't like the hostel-style rooms on the lower floors and found them creepy. I think single men stay there. The upper floors have many rooms along a labyrinthine corridor. One night someone tried to force our door open, probably by mistake. The hotel is quiet and might suit a 1-2 day stay.

The old lift makes mechanical noise if your room is close to it, and the corridor carpet is very worn. Check your sheets and towel when you arrive and tell the front desk about any marks or stains. I found some, and the front desk and housekeeping replaced them right away, so kudos to them for acting promptly. The location is fantastic, with lots of delicious local food shops within 100 to 800 meters, a good laundromat five minutes away on foot, and easy bus and train service. The room was cosy enough, the bed very comfortable, and the air-conditioning powerful. Daily housekeeping brought fresh towels, bottled water, and instant coffee. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful.

The bed took up almost the whole room, and the bathroom had no shower doors, but I didn't need them. The place seemed secure, and it was a good deal booked online compared with walking in. I checked several locations and reviews before picking it as somewhere to sleep at night. I was out sightseeing from 6:00 in the morning, grabbing food, until I got back at 10:00 at night, so it worked perfectly as a place to rest before moving to a better hotel for my last couple of days before returning to America.

It's an okay place, nothing great or bad. Service was decent, and the hotel is old, but the Little India location is prime, close to the metro and other conveniences. I booked it mainly because it was among the cheapest options in this range. Netflix wasn't working, apparently a long-standing problem, and only one lift was running.
