Hostel Soca Rocks

I've stayed at more than 40 hostels this year, and this one was pretty awful, especially at 25€ per bed. I was misled by its higher rating, though it apparently used to be better. The room was hot with no AC or fan, and since the windows had to stay open, someone walking on the sidewalk could reach in and take your things. There's no window security. Beds have no curtains, plugs, or lamps. Towels cost 2€ to rent, and there are no full sized lockers. With about 50 guests sharing just two men's toilets, there was often a wait. The bathroom sinks had no paper towels, and there was no free coffee. That's not a huge deal on its own, just another thing wrong.

The common room is a bar, which gives the place a social feel, and the kitchen facilities are beautiful. Rooms are clean, and most have balconies for some fresh air. It's a quality hostel, and I'd stay again.

The bathrooms were clean, the hostel was tidy, and it stayed quiet at night. There was plenty of parking, plus great views from the window and the bar, as you'd expect in Bovec. The place seems to be a favourite with mountain bikers. I wouldn't book adventure sports through the hostel, though, since you can find them much cheaper elsewhere if you look around. It's relaxed and laid back, with lots of room inside and out, but the bar has a limited drink selection. There aren't really any games or books worth reading, and a pool table or something similar would be nice. The double room was okay but tiny, with no lamp, and the door opens only halfway before hitting the bed.

The team made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived, and they were lovely and helpful throughout. We stayed in a six-bed dorm with enough room for everyone and lockers beneath the beds for our things. The hostel was modern, clean, and nicely decorated. We booked kayaking and rafting at reception, and both were well organized. Thanks to everyone there for making the stay so pleasant.
