Hotel Toplice

The kids enjoyed the pools and thermal park when we stayed at Hotel Toplice as a family. The hotel was a letdown, though: its rooms and shared spaces look worn and outdated, and the place badly needs renovation. It doesn't feel like a four-star property. The restaurant food was decent, which was about the only other positive. I wouldn't recommend staying unless the thermal activities for children are your main reason for coming.

Going into the hotel felt like stepping back in time, almost like “Back in the U.S.S.R.” from The Beatles. The rooms are in poor shape, with weak mattresses, no Wi-Fi signal, and air conditioning that doesn't cool them properly. The tap water smells like sewage, and there's no drinking water provided. A one-liter bottle costs €6. Dinner had a decent range of options, but in my opinion the food quality was poor. For the high price, I expected much better.

The thermal spa is excellent, and you need at least two nights to enjoy what it offers. I wouldn't stay longer than that. The hotel itself feels like three-star quality despite calling itself four-star, but it's clean and functional, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are small, with a bathroom and little balcony. One baffling thing for a spa resort is the lack of anywhere to hang wet towels or swimwear, apart from a tiny rack above the bathtub. Breakfast and dinner are okay, typical three-star food, not especially tasty unless you add salt. They keep replenishing the food, so there's enough whenever you arrive. Drinks with dinner have to be ordered and paid for separately, which I really dislike. There are plenty of tables in the dining area. Kids have evening activities from 20:00-22:00, though I didn't see a play area. The parking lot is large, and I could always find a spot.

Really nice place to be, with pools to suit every age and taste. The meals were excellent, the hotel staff very friendly, and everything was clean and quiet. See you again soon.
