Jelenov breg pod Matajurem

The family made us feel very welcome, and we had an excellent stay at Tourist Farm Jelenov. From the farm you get stunning mountain views, access to several trails, including the climb to Mt. Matajur and across the Italian border, and it’s a 15-minute drive to the nearest town. Breakfast was extensive, with food made locally or grown on the farm: eggs, jams, fruit, teas, breads and pastries, homemade muesli, drinks with their own syrups, and yogurt and milk from local farms. There are pastures with domesticated deer, pigs, goats, and chickens that you can feed. Jelenov also serves the animals as cold cuts at breakfast. Our glamping tent was simple, rustic, and small. Getting to the shared shower and bathroom means walking down a hill, which is a bit inconvenient. Dinner was nice and mostly made with produce from the garden, but at €35 per person for the full menu, it felt expensive for what it was. A la carte is available too, though the alternatives are inconvenient.

The food is homemade, absolutely delicious, and mostly uses ingredients grown by the owners. The hosts, two generations of one family, are kind, polite, open, and extremely helpful. It’s a peaceful spot in a beautiful hilly area, with views of high mountains and hiking trails fairly close by. Drežnica and Kobarid are about a 20-25 minute drive away. I wholeheartedly recommend it!

The family running Jelenov made us feel so welcome, and everything we ate was lovely. We spent two nights there in our camper, with dinner and breakfast at the restaurant; the food was local, mostly from their garden and farm. The Matajur hike also starts right in the village. If you're nearby, I highly recommend staying, eating, or visiting. Thanks for having us!

We cycled up and were glad we did. The owners were warm and welcoming, and we had an amazing five-course dinner followed by breakfast, both made with ingredients from their own farm. The setting is wonderful too.
