I booked a private room with a private bathroom through Expedia, with Bakhodir at another location. What happened felt like a scam. When I arrived at 8 p.m. with my luggage, he said the place I had booked “doesn’t exist anymore,” claimed he doesn’t work with Expedia, and asked me to cancel and get a refund from Expedia, then pay him in cash because “Expedia takes too much commission.” He took me to another property he runs, “Hostel Aisha,” and said it would be like a private room with few people. Instead, it was a filthy, overcrowded hostel. The beds were dirty, the sheets clearly hadn’t been changed, there were socks left on a bed, the bathrooms were disgusting, the kitchen was full of dirty dishes, and the place felt unsafe and rundown. He said he was giving me a discount, but when he brought up my Expedia itinerary, I saw he charged the same €100 he would have received through Expedia. The room was unbearably hot. He said the AC “only runs from midnight,” then never turned it on, so I sweated all night. When I complained, he got defensive and basically told me to leave, knowing I had nowhere else to go at that hour. The next morning, he asked me to change rooms because he had booked the room I was in to someone else. He moved me into a room with all men, which made me very uncomfortable. The weird part is that he bragged about once working at McDonald’s in the U.S., quitting mid-shift and throwing food away because he “didn’t like being told what to do.” To me, that says a lot about his arrogance, lack of integrity, and work ethic. I believe he’s a con artist running a bait-and-switch scheme through Expedia, funneling people into his nasty hostel and pocketing the same money. This was dishonest and felt like a safety issue. I strongly warn anyone reading this: don’t book with him. It’s an open-air scam and a safety issue.

Everything looks new, and the host was kind and always shared local life hacks. It’s a cozy place, and I felt at home staying here. Thank you for your hospitality, Mr Bakhodir.

The main issue for me is the price for a bed in a shared room. It’s a joke and should be lower, especially with people packed in like sardines. The place is clean, everything is new and working, the location is fine, and the owner is nice and communicative, but the price is still too much for what you get.

Our train was delayed, so we reached ljubljana at night. I called the owner to say we’d be late, and he told me reception closed at 00:00. We got there around 22:30, but he wasn’t there. When we called again, he said he was 10-15 minutes away. It took 30 minutes and two more calls for him to show up. We’d made a reservation under my friend’s name, but that card was cancelled, so we booked the same stay again under my name with a different card. The owner couldn’t seem to understand this and insisted we pay for the cancelled booking on booking.com. After a lot of back and forth, we got our bed. He then asked for a “city tax” of 12 euros, in cash or through his personal revolut. I think that’s complete bullshit and seemed like a way to pocket money instead of paying the state. The location felt shady at night, though it was close to the station. The front door was also wide open at random times, which made the place feel very unsafe and let anyone in and out. We also paid 10 euros for a 17-minute wash cycle, which didn’t make sense when we hadn’t even used an hour of water or electricity. The price was outrageous for what was offered. Save some money by booking elsewhere.

The place is new and the bed was nice, and the people running it were lovely. We enjoyed our stay, and much love, enjoy the city! At the same time, the rooms are small, have little storage for people on Interrail and the like, and have no windows. From our experience, it seems one guy lives there permanently and is a BIG snooker person. That was fun for 5 minutes, then not so much. The location is quite far from the city, down a weird alleyway. A real love-and-hate relationship 😄🫶😂🌟
