Ginger Rooms

The location is the only good thing about Ginger and Viva rooms. I stayed one night on 28.10. and had planned to stay another, but changed my mind. It was freezing in the building, and I was cold all night. When I told reception the heating wasn’t working, they gave me a blanket instead of turning it on. The radiators were only lukewarm for about 10 minutes in the morning. There was also a terrible smell from the toilet, beyond what I can explain. I wouldn’t stay at Ginger again. If you have another option, skip it.

The receptionist was very friendly, and the place was clean and nice to stay in. The location is very good. It’s a tough option if you have big or heavy bags, though, since there’s no lift and you have to use the stairs. There’s no parking, but they can point you to a place.

A budget place with a comfortable room, but the towels smelled bad every day, even after they were changed. When the shower gel ran out, the staff didn’t replace it.

I have hay fever, which makes me feel hot, and after arriving from the UK I asked to switch on the AC. Staff said they couldn’t because the owner had instructed them not to, and suggested I email him. I wrote to Gorazd but got no reply. The next day I asked at reception again. The staff member said it wasn’t possible to speak to the owner and told me to email him. When I insisted, she put me on the phone with Gorazd. He said it had been cold the week before and read out a temperature of 24 degrees at his place. That may have been true, since we were talking around 9:30am, before it got as hot. He also said that if I was uncomfortable, maybe the problem was with me. I told him that even if it was my problem, dismissing a guest like that instead of apologizing or trying to make them comfortable was a problem too. He said it was unreasonable to ask for air conditioning on a hot, sunny June day, in a room that had air conditioning. Then he tried to end the conversation with, “we won't get anywhere with this.” I said it could be a teachable moment, and that an apology or any effort to fix things would have been enough for me. He eventually gave a half-hearted apology. Afterward, the staff member told me this was what he was like, and that he yelled at and berated staff if they did anything without his instructions. It sounds like a management problem rather than a service problem. If he reads this, I expect his first reaction will be to bully the staff instead of thinking about his own attitude.
