Hostel 24 Center

It was a horrible night. The room smelled of sewer, the neighbors were too loud, and I could hardly sleep. Reception was supposed to be available until 10 pm, but it had already closed.

We stayed one night in a private room with an ensuite bathroom, and the staff were excellent. We left a Kindle behind, but they arranged by email to send it back, and we only had to pay postage. The hostel is well placed for the centre of the lovely city and the funicular to the Castle. There’s a good supermarket nearby, plus a decent kitchen.

There was nowhere to sit outside my room because that area was kept locked. To get to the pantry, I had to go through an open door and down a floor at the back of the hostel. Getting in and out meant using three keys in broken locks and handles. The room itself was tiny, like a jail cell, with steel bunk beds and barely enough space to sit. The toilet was right at the entrance, raised by a step. The shower floor sloped, there was nowhere to put anything or stand properly, and I kept slipping. They had no large towels, so I was given a hand towel to bathe with. Sadly, this stay ruined my experience of Lubljana.

The front desk staff were really helpful, and we were right in the centre. But the double room was much too small for two people, uncomfortable, and very loud outside. It also felt excessively expensive for what it offered. We’d look at other options next time.
