Hotel Planinka

We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return someday. The hotel is cozy and close to Logar Valley, with a very clean room and a big, comfortable bed. In the morning, we had one of the best hotel breakfasts we’ve ever been served.

The old-fashioned charm and carpeted areas aren’t modern, but everything was clean. Breakfast was okay, nothing special, more like what I’d expect at a 3-star hotel. We stayed as a family with two kids, and our room was on the second floor. With no elevator, we had to carry four bags and the children up the stairs, which was inconvenient. There’s no air conditioning or window nets, so the room was uncomfortable in warm weather and insects could get in. On Sunday, loud church bells nearby woke us at 7 a.m., something light sleepers should know about. It’s a decent place to stay if you’re prepared for some discomforts, though there are areas that could be improved.

The restaurant’s food was far from what we expected. The dishes were classic local fare with a nicer presentation, but the ingredients were very basic and there wasn’t much of a twist. Even across a six-course meal, ingredients were repeated. The hotel itself is lovely and family-owned, with good service. The rooms are cozy and clean, though the building has no elevator or individually controlled air conditioning.

Breakfast was nice, and the hotel was comfortable, with wonderful, helpful staff. What we’ll remember most, though, is the food and wine experience at hotel Planinka. The cellar has an impressive selection of Slovenian wines, along with some others, and our host knew just which wines to pair with the dishes we chose. 10 out of 10!
