Pikol Lake Village Premium Glamping

We had a great stay. The restaurant was closed, but they’d let guests know in advance since it was off season. The rooms were spotless every day. There’s one jacuzzi per room, though it’s only partly private. Still a 10/10 for us, even with the price being a little higher.

We came for the cabins and didn’t eat at the restaurant. We really enjoyed our time at Pilkol. The nature sounds and hot tub were just what we needed, and the cabin was cosy, with a super comfortable bed. Every morning they left a picnic basket on our stoop, and we had breakfast on the deck behind the cabin. Our hostess was lovely and very helpful with our questions, and she made sure we had a pleasant stay. If you need a getaway, this is a great spot, with Italy just a short drive away.

We went for the set dinner menu during Week of the Restaurant (Teden restavracij). The setting around the lake is beautiful, and there are glamping huts as well as the restaurant. Inside, though, I found the stuffed bear and fish made the atmosphere less inviting. I don’t think they belong in an upscale restaurant. We were among the first to arrive and got a warm welcome and an offer of champagne. A very nice woman asked if we wanted any extra dishes beyond the set menu, which we politely declined, and we chose the wine pairing. Then it seemed they forgot about us while serving tables that had ordered the special starters. Those tables had already eaten their starters and received the amuse-bouche, but nothing came to us. Nearly 50 minutes passed with only bread on our table. When we asked, they brought the amuse-bouche without apologizing. Service stayed slow after that, and nobody explained what the food or wines were. After a long 3.5 hours, we were ready to leave, but there was a problem with the payment machine and a queue formed by the bar. Several guests were trying to pay and go, since apparently we couldn’t pay at the table. The food itself was really amazing, especially the main fish course. But the service overshadowed it, which is why I’m giving three stars. They need major improvements in service, and waiters should make sure everyone is served in a timely way.

The cabins are exceptionally clean, and we found them comfortable for a peaceful break. They’re tucked into beautiful scenery, with lush forests and quiet streams nearby. It’s a serene spot to get away from the rush of daily life. Staying at the Pilot cabins was a refreshing chance to enjoy nature.
