A memorable, quirky place to stay, and a cool centre. The staff were friendly and the food was tasty. If you’re keen to ride horses, this is the place to look. Just keep in mind that the train doesn’t run and the restaurant closes on Slovenian holidays when you’re visiting Postojna. We managed around it, but it’s easy to get caught out, so driving may be the way to go.

There doesn’t seem to be much going on here now. The restaurant is shut, and the stables are half empty.

The horse stables were really clean and tidy, and the wait staff made sure our group was well looked after. We came with friends for a small evening feast, and everyone serving us was fun, welcoming, and pleasant.

The food was the highlight for us: a delicious, carefully prepared homemade four-course menu, and the staff were super friendly too. We felt treated like royalty at this huge estate, just a short drive from Postojna. They’re renovating the old castle now, with plans for it to become a luxury hotel in the coming years. The estate currently raises Icelandic horses and Black Angus cattle, and you can go for rides on the horses. If you’re heading to Postojna or Croatia, a little detour off the main road is well worth it.

My daughters take riding lessons here. The instructors are a wonderful team, and the Icelandic horses are lovely. I haven’t stayed overnight myself.
