Grand Hotel Primus - Sava Hotels & Resorts

We often come back to the Ptuj thermal baths to recharge, and there’s little to complain about, even though the indoor area could use some renovation. We usually book one of the brick bungalows beside the hotel and pay extra to use its pools. They’re clean, never too crowded, and the whirlpools work perfectly. The wellness center has massage options at a range of prices, and the restaurant has decent food with lots of buffet choices. This year, the pastry chef deserves a special mention: the desserts at dinner and the ones sold at the bar were spectacular.

The indoor pool is great, the thermal park and its slides are amazing, and there’s a good range of wellness services. But the rest of the stay didn’t match the lovely welcome at reception. We came for our annual summer holiday with my mom and my nine-year-old son. The room needs refurbishing, especially the furniture. The bed pulled out from the sofa was just about okay for my slim son. The AC was noisy and barely cooled the room, and although the bathroom was spacious and nice, the sink kept blocking up. We told reception about these problems and were told they’d be fixed, but we saw no result. Dinner was average, with limited options for vegetarians and no clear labels to show which dishes were fully vegetarian. There were no allergen labels either, though the range of dishes was good. There wasn’t much for children to do: the animation room seemed better suited to younger kids. With no live music or evening entertainment, and not much nearby, evenings could get boring, especially since this isn’t a seaside resort. The reception and staff were friendly, but overall the hotel needs a lot of improvement.

The service was very friendly and the food was delicious, and the pool was still a nice place to relax with the family even though it’s a bit dated. The rooms, though, weren’t perfect. A broken mirror, ants, and a bathroom that wasn’t very clean took away from the impression. Still, it’s a nice spot for a family vacation.

The elevators were out of order while we were there, which was annoying. Apart from that, we had a very good stay. It was mostly quiet, the food was good though the selection could be better, and I liked the cat-themed robot waiters. They didn’t actually do much, mostly wandering around the hall or sitting there, which was a bit of a shame.
