Hotel Lucija

We ended up staying three nights because the whole package worked so well for us. The place is old and a bit worn, and it needs refurbishment, but if you think of it as a retro hotel with character, that has its own charm. We like hotel museums, and this one has that feel. The rooms were perfectly fine, the beds comfortable, and the bathrooms clean. The attentive staff made a real difference, and we also loved the location, fair prices, quiet atmosphere, terrace, garden grown in around the old plane trees, and the romantic swimming spot by the river. It seems to be off most tour operators' lists, which means fewer coach tour crowds. Most guests we saw were individual travelers, like bikers and hikers.

We only stopped for lunch in July 2018, we didn't have a room. The food was very good, and the river and nearby mountains made for a beautiful view. It was odd that we couldn't order a pancake on its own, only alongside a main dish.

The hotel feels dated, and the coffee was probably the worst I had in Slovenia. Still, the staff were friendly and informative, the location was great, and breakfast had a good range, including plenty of teas.

It's clean, but the bathroom and windows are old, the street noise is loud, and the carpet needs replacing. For the condition the hotel is in, it's too expensive. I wouldn't bring your wife or girlfriend here.
