The best part for us was having so much to do right on the property: games, exploring, marshmallows by the bonfire, or just watching the sky change. The kids loved splashing in the cool creek at both ends of the grounds, and the huge lawn backed by tall green forest was beautiful and relaxing. We also took a day trip to Lake Bled, catching the train a five-minute walk up the driveway. There are nice places to eat in the nearby town, with lovely views, too. Klavže 28 is such a special place, especially if you love nature, quiet, culture, and getting away from the usual tourist route. The two guest houses are charming and striking, the rooms are thoughtfully set up, and the shared kitchen and living areas have a summer camp or family get-together feel. The hosts, John and Sarah, are wonderful people, and we loved getting to know them. My toddlers had a great time playing with their toddler and baby, too. We’ve traveled around the States and abroad, and this was easily one of the most beautiful, unusual, enchanting, and memorable places we’ve stayed. We can’t wait to come back. Such a treat, and I highly recommend the trip to curious travelers and nature lovers.

John is a lovely host, and he wants you to enjoy your time in Slovenia. He can point you to the best gelato in Ljubljana or help you plan how to get the most out of a hike on Mt Vogel.

For a quiet, easygoing family vacation, Klavze 28 was just right. We stayed with our two kids and loved it. It’s in a beautiful, out-of-the-way part of the country, but you can get around Slovenia easily by car, or take the train from the station at the end of the driveway. John and Sarah were lovely hosts, with plenty of good suggestions to help us make the most of our time there.

What stays with me is the warmth of being together, along with local produce, fresh air, greenery, and the sound of the river below. The guesthouse is authentic, charming, comfortable, and beautifully decorated, with private rooms, shared kitchens and living rooms, and the outdoors all around. The whole lovely family runs the place. I’ve known the owner since we were 15, and after 21 years we finally got to catch up here, bringing our families together for a couple of warm nights full of great conversation, joy, and love. Thank you :)

We wanted a low-key, relaxing break, and this was a lovely spot to read, play games, and look at the mountains. It’s a peaceful place in nature, and a good base for seeing the beautiful scenery nearby. The old kitchen was a pleasure to cook in, and we made use of the home-grown vegetables. My partner enjoyed trying the local natural wines, too. It’s simple living, with a few little zhuzhy touches like the gorgeous shower gel and shampoo. This was my second time at Klavže28. The new hosts were every bit as welcoming as Pascal & Ben were in 2016. John & Rok were helpful with any questions or requests and shared plenty about the local area and beyond. We’ll be back :)
